  Graphite on paper, 2022,   10.5 x 14 in.

These are drawn from Karen memes that largely come out of Black social media counter-surveillance (which have been co-opted by white men to denigrate a type of white woman). The women are recorded acting out some historical melodrama. Perhaps what’s at stake has to do with the legacy of white women as valuable property and the innate contingency of that status is unconsciously a hysterical position. The drawings have in mind Da Vinci’s studies of gestures and body language to depict human interiors and Michelangelo’s ‘Damned Souls’.
